A FLOWER THAT DEFIES TIME...
On Corsica, the French “Isle of Beauty”, grows a remarkable plant known as Immortelle, or the everlasting flower. Its blooms never fade, even after they have been picked and dried.
Immortelle thrives in sunny conditions and is rich in active compounds that help it withstand time and environmental stress. It also contains a high concentration of neryl acetate, a molecule renowned for its anti-ageing properties.
L’Occitane has been studying the anti-ageing benefits of Immortelle for over 18 years and has registered six patents in France based on this research.
ORGANICALLY AND SUSTAINABLY CULTIVATED
2004, L’Occitane established an Immortelle plantation to cultivate this wild plant in a controlled and sustainable way. L’Occitane’s Sustainable Ingredients team invited local producers to take part in the first organic cultivation of this remarkable flower.
Cultivation is the only way to ensure a sustainable supply of Immortelle essential oil without disturbing its natural habitat. These plantations have had no negative impact on the environment, and every field is cultivated using natural methods.

Our researchers have succeeded in capturing its most delicate molecules to unlock the heart of the Immortelle flower. Today, pollution has a significant impact on the skin, and as part of extensive research into its effects, our Immortelle essential oil has demonstrated twice the antioxidant power of vitamin E.*

TRACEABILITY
SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
L’Occitane discovered this remarkable plant in 2001. It was named Immortelle for its exceptional resilience, as even after being picked, its flowers never lose their colour, even when dried. In 2004, L’Occitane established the first large-scale Immortelle plantation in Corsica, cultivated using organic farming methods. Sustainable harvesting of Immortelle also helps reduce the risk of wildfires. Before then, no one had successfully cultivated this plant on a controlled scale.
With the support of Corsican and Provençal experts, and thanks to dedicated investment, we planted 50 hectares along Corsica’s east coast and in the Balagne region.
Today, the project is managed by ten Corsican farmers and distillers who use organic cultivation methods and work under contracts spanning five to seven harvests.
